A rare surviving First World War 1914 period 'New Bristol 12th Battalion (Bristol's Own) Gloucestershire Regiment celluloid tin button recruiting badge' depicting a patriotic Union (Jack) Flag; Fair condition, original pin fitting now rusty and delicate, foxing and cracks. Diameter 32mm. Many of the men who volunteered in the first months of the war formed the 12th Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment, known as Bristol's Own. At first, the recruits continued to live at home and go to work, so they wore badges like this to show that they had volunteered.
