A scarce original circa late Victorian / Edwardian period 'Ladies Orange Benevolent Association L.O.B.A. Canada Ontario Orange Order large silk tassled sash pin badge' inscribed to the obverse in gold tooled lettering 'CARLETON No. 224 L.O.B.A. OTTAWA, ONT.'; the reverse inscribed the same in silver lettering, with the addition of 'IN MEMORIAM'. Good condition, complete pin fittings. Height approx 223 mm. Founded in 1894 to provide women with an opportunity to actively practice the principles of the Order. Like their male counterparts, the members of LOBA had to be both protestant and believers that Canada should remain a dominion within the British Empire.
