A scarce original Boer War period '1899 -1900 The National Commemorative medal'; alloy plated example the obverse depicting a wounded but defiant British soldier, rifle at the ready, a representation of 'A Gentleman in Kharki' by Richard Caton Woodville; the reverse inscribed 'The Queen God Bless Her' 'This Medal Commemorates The Magnificent Response of Britain's Sons To The Empire's Call To Arms Transvaal War 1899-1900' 'Daily Mail Kipling Poem'; with maker's details to the reverse 'Spink & Son London'. Fair condition, with signs of wear, traces of solder remain to the top rim where an additional item was once attached. Price reflects. Diameter 45mm.
