Description

A rare original circa 1915 to 1918 Great War period 'Almeric Paget Military Massage Corps nurse's uniform pin badge'; convex brass wing bearing cross to the centre, inlaind with red and white enamel, with an applied dark blue circlet with the letters 'APMMC'. Good condition, complete with original pin fittings, enamel loss to central blue ring and letters, stress marks to vertical red band, not unusual in this very vulnerable designed badge, but remarkably in this case both wings are intact. Width 53mm. Almeric Paget Massage Corps was founded in August 1914. Following the units huge success it was greatly expanded and the title 'Military' added by the War Office in December 1915. At the end of the War, in January 1919 it was renamed 'The Military Massage Service'.
