Description

World War 1 Iron Cross 1st & 2nd Class in privately purchased type luxury case. The Iron Cross (Eisernes Kreuz) was re-instituted by King Wilhelm II on 5 August 1914 for award during WWI. The second class medal was for award to personnel who performed a single act of bravery in combat. The 2nd class cross has a three piece construction and a magnetic core. The cross is not visible maker marked. The 1st class cross has a three piece construction with an iron core and a silver frame, the cross is nicely maker marked with 'WS' indicating production by the company of 'Wagner Sohn' from Berlin. Both crosses are nicely stored together in a privately purchased luxury type presentation case. The maroon-red coloured etui is showing normal traces of usage and is slightly discoloured. A postcard sized portrait photo is stored in the lid of the box, showing a soldier wearing an Iron Cross 1st class, this set was found together like this. Nice and decorative original set in very good condition.
