Description

A good original pre war period small bronze sports fob, the obverse bearing Royal Air Force 'Per Ardva Ad Astra' motto badge inscribed 'No 11 (F) GROUP SHIELD 1937- 38 Runners Up'; the reverse with embossed scene depicting football players tackling for the ball while the rest of the team look on. Very good condition, complete with ring suspension. Diameter 26mm. The Group was reformed on 1 May 1936 as No. 11 (Fighter) Group by renaming Fighting Area. On 14 July 1936, 11 Group became the first RAF Fighter Command Group responsible for the air-defence of southern England, including London.
