US Spanish American War Campaign Hat, Snowflake Vent

Original era manufacture. A wonderful condition, grayish-tan wool felt hat, with a double bound edge stitching and brown leather sweatband. On each side of the hat body is a perforated design for ventilation; known in collector parlance as the 'snowflake' pattern.The leather sweatband is very sound, with a very clear gold embossed logo, 'U.S.A.' with a shield and crossed flags.Nice fore & aft crease in the crown with an intact matching color cap ribbon. Around the base of the hat is an enlisted cap cord in cavalry yellow. Pinned to the front of the cap is a wreath insignia, bearing the letters USWV, United Spanish War Veterans, on the left side, is a gild eagle with OHIO 1, placed over the eagles head. Who ever place the eagle on the hat was very careful not to make an extra hole for the screwpost, using instead one of the existing ventilator perforations. Overall a very clean, issue quality hat with easily removed veteran insignia. Size about a 6 3/4.
