Description

A good original circa 1940's period 'Auxiliary Fire Service lapel badge'; chromium plated eight pointed crowned star with red enamel 'AFS' to centre, the reverse impressed with maker's details 'J.Pinches Ltd London'. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole fitting, no damage to the enamel. Height 29mm. The 'Auxiliary Fire Service' AFS was first formed in 1938. In 1941 the 'Auxiliary Fire Service' and the local authority fire brigades were amalgamated to become the 'National Fire Service'.
