RAF No 72 Maintenance Unit Royal Air Force MU Badge c1953 to 1956

A rare original short lived circa 1953 to 1956 period 'RAF No 72 Maintenance Unit' gilt and enamel badge displaying a Queen Elizabeth II Crown, the central device depicting a castle with superimposed swan and Latin motto below 'Tacent Satis Laudant' (Silence is praise enough). Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel, gilt finish remains bright. Height 31mm. Royal Air Force 'No. 72 Maintenance Unit, Roade, Northamptonshire' was closed around 1956 after necessary economies in Maintenance Command.
