WW1 Queen Marys Needlework Guild surgical branch QMNG badge.

A very scarce original First World War period 'Queen Mary's Needlework Guild Official's ribbon neck badge', gilt and enamel example bearing Queen Mary's Royal Standard impaled with the arms of her father, Francis, Duke of Teck and the Hanoverian coat of arms as used by her grandfather, Prince Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge, surmounting a white cross with the letters 'QMNG', this with additional 'Surgical Branch' bar sewn to a blue silk neck ribbon fully complete but delicate. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings (pin bent but functional) enamel in perfect condition. Height of badge 37mm. The Queen Mary's Needlework Guild came into being after just a few days into the Great War, when Queen Mary's issued a letter on the 4th August 1914 through the Press, to the Women of the Empire asking that it might be rendered 'To alleviate all distress occasioned by the War!' which was the purpose of the guild to provide comforts and create articles of clothing and surgical equipment as well as other gifts to the troops fighting for King and Country at home and abroad.
