Description

A scarce original chromium plated lapel badge worn by society members in the form of a lifebuoy with 'Merchant Navy' crest to the centre and blue enamel circular title 'B.S.A.S. War Comforts', the reverse stamped in relief 'Regd No 838189' a Registration, Design and Patent for the year 1941. Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, enamel perfect. Height 27mm. The British Ship Adoption Society a Maritime Charity was formed in the early part of the Second World War, with a large number of schools taking part in the scheme, amassing comforts for a particular ship and in return the children would receive letters of thanks and news from various ports around the world to which it would sail.
