US Indian Wars, Army Issue Winter Hood, Philidephia Depot

Sold
$225.00

Description

Original era manufacture. Brown heavy cotton removable hood with a fold-down peak and brown cotton tape trim. The interior of the hood is lined entirely of a good quality red wool, two button closure at front, with the lower button missing. Overall the hood is in near new condition with it's original period Philidelphia Depot tag still affixed. According to the book 'Hats Off' by our pal John Langellier, these were initially adopted in the 1880's as a replacement for the muskrat fur caps then in issue. First issue began in 1884 with modifications occurring two years later.
