Description

A scarce original circa 1946 to 1958 early pattern example of a 'West African Airways Corporation Officer's cap badge'. Embroidered in gold wire bullion on padded black felt backing, the crest of the airline being a laurel wreath surmounted by an 'astral crown' encircling an airborne flying elephant named 'Skypower' displaying the initials 'WAAC' around its girth, the reverse with paper lined black hessian backing. Very good condition, gold wire slightly toned. Height Approx 62mm. 'The West African Airways Corporation' was a short lived airline, established by the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) in 1946 and dissolved in 1958.
