A full length WW1 Royal Navy cap tally for HMS Essex. Gold thread on black silk. HMS Essex was a Monmouth class armoured cruiser, built in 1904 in Pembroke. During WW1 she was involved in Atlantic patrols and captured several German merchant ships.
