EIIR 2nd type Royal Observer Corps with 2nd award clasp To- LEADING.OBSERVER.J.JOHNSTONE. The recipient served with No-24 Edinburgh group & was awarded the medal in 1978 & the 2nd award clasp in 1990. He was a farmer from Kelso & was awarded the Royal Highland agricultural society of Scotland long service medal after 33 years service to the society in 1991. 14314 Royal observer corps long service medals were issued & 3041 of these were awarded with the 1st clasp. 1928 of the 14314 were awarded to Leading observers.
