WW1 1914-15 Trio To- 1259.PTE.T.W.HORNE.CEYLON.PLR.R.C (star) & 2-LIEUT.T.W.HORNE (Pair) Thomas Wardlaw Horne was born in Edinburgh 24-5-1886 & was working on a rubber plantation in Ceylon on the outbreak of war. He first landed in Egypt 17-11-1914 & went on to serve in the Suez canal & on Gallipoli. He was severely wounded on Gallipoli in August 1915 & returned to the UK. Whilst in the UK he was commissioned in to the 8th service battalion of the Seaforth Highlanders and was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 22-8-1917 whilst leading his platoon in an attack on a fortified farm. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Tyne Cot memorial. NEF/GVF & a scarce 1914-15 star to a small colonial unit. Complete with MIC details, ODGW details, CWGC details, copy obituary's from his old school & copy images of the recipient in uniform as an officer of the Seaforth highlanders.
