No Clasp QSA 1899-1902, AGS 1901-1956 With Somaliland 1902-04 Clasp, 1914-15 Trio & GV 1st type RN LS&GC To- W.J.GRANT.STO.HMS.NAIAD (QSA & AGS) 290035.W.J.GRANT.CH.STO.RN (1914-15 Trio) & 290035.W.J.GRANT.STO.PO.HMS.HINDUSTAN William John Grant was born in Dorchester, Dorset 21-5-1877 & enlisted in to the Royal Navy in 1898. He served onboard HMS Naiad during the later stages of the Boer War & during the Somaliland campaign of 1902-1904. He was awarded his LS&GC in 1914 whilst onboard HMS Hindustan & he remained with her for most of the great war. He sadly died of ill health whilst serving at HMS Gilia 19-3-1919 age 40 & is buried in Malta (Capuccinii) Naval cemetery. He is recorded by the C.W.G.C as the late husband of Frances Mary Grant of 17 love lane, Weymouth. Lightly polished GVF or better with minor contact marks to the first two medals & the LS&GC. Complete with copy service papers & CWGC details.
