IGS WAZIRISTAN 1919-21, OFFICER, BORDER REGIMENT

GVR 1st type I.G.S 1908 With Waziristan 1921-24 Clasp To- CAPT.H.R.ALEXANDER.BORDER.R The recipient served in WW1 as an officer with the Army Cyclist Corps & the Border Regiment. He first landed in France 15-10-1915 & is also entitled to the 1914-15 Trio. NEF & Complete with MIC details Heathcot Ross ALEXANDER Bom 26th April 1892. Appointed temporary second lieutenant 22nd September 1914 In the January 1915 Army List he is listed as having been appointed to the 12th battalion Durham Light Infantry Attached to the Army Cyclist Corps from 22nd June 1915. Landed France 15th October 1915 Attached Army Cyclist Corps from 22/6/15 to 17/5/1919. Nominated for Commissions in the Regular Army and commissioned a Second Lieutenant, Border Regt 30th March 1916 with seniority 22nd June 1915 Promoted Lieutenant, Border Regt 1 July 1917 with seniority 28th Jan 1917 Employed West African Frontier Force (Nigeria Regiment) 23/7/19 - ? Promoted Captain 19th October 1921 while still seconded to W. A. F. F. Rejoined 1st battalion Border Regiment ? 1st Bn Border Regt proceeded to India in 1919 where it was at first stationed at Karachi. From here it was moved two years later to Kohat, and in the hot weather of 1922 it was quartered at Parachinar, 117 miles west of Kohat and 16 miles from the Peiwar Kotal. From November of this year until the following March the 1st Battalion was on active service with a punitive force carrying out operations against the Mahsud Waziris. These operations, which took place under very severe weather conditions, consisted in occupying the Razmak Plateau and in devastating the Makin area. On the conclusion of this expedition the 1st Battalion spent a year at Peshawar, then a year at Aden, and finally returned to England in 1925. He sailed from Aden to London in May 1924. Placed on the half pay list on account of ill-health. 18th July 1924 Retired on retired pay on account of ill-health 27th Sept. 1924. Still on Retired List in Dec 1941 Died 25 Jan 1946 at 29 Cleveland Gardens Hyde Park, London (home address was 29 Penywern Road, Earls Court)
