GVR 1st type WW1 Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM), QSA 1899-1902 With clasps for Cape Colony, orange Free State & Transvaal, 1914-15 Trio with M.I.D Oakleaves To- 728.PTE.A.E.HOLMES.RLY.PNR.REGT (QSA) & 3144.SJT.A.E.HOLMES.E.A.PNR.COY Arthur Edward Holmes served with the 1st battalion of the Railway Pioneer Regiment during the Boer War & went on to serve with the East African Pioneer Company in East Africa during WW1 He landed in theatre of war 4A 23-7-1915 & was mentioned in despatches for East Africa in the London Gazette 8-2-1917 this was followed by the award of the DCM for services in East Africa in the London gazette 7-3-1918 with the following citation. For Conspicuous gallantry & devotion to duty.Although advanced in years he has always been most energetic, having been employed on both military works & field service for the last three years. A scarce East Africa DCM & MID group. GVF & Complete with MIC & medal roll details along with London gazette and other basic research details.
