Third Reich Police Bayonet

A fine example of a “cut down” bayonet bearing the name “Heinrich Brecht, Munster” on the reverse ricasso. Origins of this name are unknown, perhaps a supplier contracted to carry out the shortening process, or distributor, or even a military outfitter in Munster. This Police Bayonet is one of the rarely seen examples produced in brass. The brass had a gilded finish when it was first produced, and is of the type without rifle slot. Pommel, backstrap and crossguard are in fine condition, the reverse crossguard being stamped “ K.H.7.” Stag grip plates have nice age toning and have the additional fixing hole frequently seen on Weimar bayonets which have suffered the shortening process. A open winged police insignia is correctly pinned to the obverse plate. Unsharpened blade in fine condition having all the plating remaining and a sharp tip. Black scabbard leather has twin decorative lines to both sides and is sewn to the rear. Scabbard mounts are secured with staples and undented, the upper fitting having a centrally placed throat screw to the obverse, and the matching “K.H.7.” above. Black leather frog is excellent having minor cracking around the lug hole. A Troddel, in the correct tie, is wrapped about the “waist” of the frog.
