Description

Hilt fittings to this early example to include eagle head pommel, backstrap and crossguard are in superb condition having full plating. Correctly operating push button with red felt remaining in the rifle slot. Black chequered grip plates are in perfect condition and are retained by three domed rivets. Long plated blade in excellent condition with only minute signs of sharpening to the cutting edge and very sharp finish to the unusual sawback. Stamped into the upper reverse ricasso is the pre 1921 Eickhorn maker mark of back to back squirrels. Undented black scabbard is in excellent condition with only minor loss of finish to the lower area adjacent to the scabbard ball. Accompanying this remarkable survivor is a black parade frog in similarly excellent condition. Stitching complete and in good order, leather unworn and with decorative lines to the outer edges.Bayonets of this vintage in this condition by this prestigious maker do not often come to the market.
