ALL ALIMINIUM 'LAST DITCH PRODUCTION' 1st LUFTWAFFE DAGGER.

Description

I have had a few of these daggers over the years, but not many. The last time was 4+ years ago and I found 2 at an antique centre in Cardiff. They are all identical in construction. It is my opinion that these were 'last ditch' attempts at producing these things, and as raw materials were very short once the war had really taken hold, they were made from whatever they had, and improvised with everything else. The other possibility is that these were put together from remaining stock, and sold to Allied soldiers as souvenirs? Anyway, they are what they are! An all aluminium dagger, with pommel, crossguard and scabbard fittings in mint condition, brushed aluminium. The bright golden anodised swastikas are 100% perfect and shine out from the surfaces. The grip and the scabbard body are in a dark blue finish, which at first glance looks to be leather, but in fact has been painted blue. The grip has bright aluminium 'springy wire' as the wrap. The scabbard body has some chips to the paint surface from age and handling, but just shows it's 80 odd years old, and not made yesterday. There are the proper set of aluminium hanger chains attached to the scabbard rings. The blade is in mint condition, still covered in some grease and non-maker marked (same for all the others I've had). Original blade buffer is installed. A really nice looking, if somewhat unusual dagger.
