LONG 'SLOTTED' RURAL POLICE BAYONET BY ALCOSO.

Available
£695.00

Description

A very nice example of a Third Reich police bayonet with the more unusual slotted mortise pommel, which would enable this to be fitted to a rifle. Usual early features with a solid nickel/brass hilt and crossguard. Beak shaped pommel with feathering and oakleaves along the crossguard. Nice lighter coloured stag grips with oval aluminium police badge. This bayonet started life in the Weimar period, so shows evidence of the re-working by the armourers. Reverse crossguard and top of scabbard fittings carry the same '106' number. Scabbard is in great shape with dark brown leather. Blade is in near mint condition, and is still covered with a protective grease. Riccasso is marked both side.Early Alcoso trademark on one side and the full name of Alexander Coppell etc on the other.
