WW2 POW Chess Set c.1942

Sold
£85.00

Description

A rare and complete WW2 chess set made for the British Army by Jaques of London. Coming in its original 1942 dated, maker and broad arrow marked box, together with its playing board, these somewhat basic chess sets (by Jaques' standards) were sent out to POW camps. In some instances, chess pieces have previously been found with concealed escape compasses built into them, but these are made of solid wood. Presented in very good condition throughout, the set retains all its pieces, while the board has a fading owner's name.
