Japanese WWII, Navy Tent Section, Guadalcanal Souvenir

Original era manufacture. A 19 x 20 inch section of heavy green canvas, with stenciled logo as shown. This we purchased from an old friend of ours, who told us that when he was a boy, a family friend who was a Marine veteran of Guadalcanal, gave it to him. The Marine told our friend that he picked it up on the island, and remembered seeing the tracks in the mud left by the Japanese wearing their Tabi shoes. There are three ragged holes in the fabric, likely made from US shrapnel. Our friend was quite proud of this relic, he kept it all his life, and when he recently passed, his family sold it to us with the remainder of his collection.
