Description

Original period manufacture. A complete example of the pre-WWI Prussian Cuirassier officers helmet. Thin, chrome finished steel skull and neckguard which is edged with gilded brass, with matching rivets, clover-leaf base, eagle wappen and scale chinstraps. The underside of the front visor is covered in a green, paper-like material, with the name A.KLUCKE stamped into the edge. The rear visor has a black velvet covering, showing wear and scattered ares of missing material. Thin brown leather sweatband with scalloped edges, showing a mouse nibble on one section in the back, with ribbed brown cloth material drape. The finish on the exterior of the helmet is in overall sound condition, there is a small dent on the right-side corner of the visor, with no major surface denting, and a few small spots where the finish shows wear and/or bubbling. At some point in the past, the helmet was held by the spike, with the result being that the thin bead of solder which attaches the bottom of the spike to base broke away. You can see this clean break in our photos, as the base fits properly and is not distorted, this should be an easy repair. Included with the helmet at the time of our purchase, is a white cotton cover, secured by enlisted type small metal hooks with a leather lined spike cover. The cover is well made of thin cotton fabric, it does not fluoresce under a UV light, with staining visible on the spike caused by the leather beneath. There are no visible markings on the cover.
