Cased KVK 1st Class '1'

War Merit Cross 1st Class with Swords (Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse mit Schwerter). The 'Kriegsverdienstkreuz' was instituted on 18 October 1939. The basic criteria for award centered about bravery and service (not in connection with combat). The unissued cross is a nice tombak (Buntmetall) example, complete with a functional pin & catch. The cross still retains most of its original silver finish and shows polished highlights, it shows a slightly darkened age patina. The cross is nicely maker marked with number '1' indicating production by the company of 'Deschler & Sohn' in München. The cross comes in its original simplified black coloured case having a neat silver-coloured 'KvK'-logo imprinted on the top. This set originates from the famous 'Deschler' hoard which was uncovered a few years ago. Desirable set in good unissued condition!
