US Mexican War Era, Full Colonel Epaulettes

Original period manufacture. Purchased at the same auction as our Coatee listed this morning, are these beautiful dress epaulettes in the rank of full Colonel. Beautifully hand embroidered gold eagles (left & right) adorn the tops of the boards, with a silver wire wreath on the chest, and red cotton tongue and eye. Above the head of the eagle is a silver washed eagle button with an Infantry I at the center of the eagle's chest.The bodies of the epaulettes are covered in a silver brocade, piped in twisted silver wire, with a silver horseshoe at the end. Below the horseshoe hang thick silver wire fringe in very sound condition. On the underside can be seen a white silk covered padding, with white securing laces to tie the epaulettes to the shoulders of the coat. There is some wear and fraying to the silk fabric, something to be expected of insignia of this era. Nice silver toned finish overall.
