Japanese Gogatsu, 'Boys Day' Hero Doll, Mid 20th Century

Sold
$165.00

Description

Original period manufacture. A very ornate, decorative doll produced to honor the yearly celebration of 'Boys Day' on the fifth day of the fifth month. We have owned this little warrior for over 30 years, and would guess he was produced sometime in the 1950-60's.He is of very fine quality, his garments are all embroidered not printed with excellent detail throughout. The Peach clan banner at his waist actually fits behind him, but as he would not fit in our display case while wearing it, we removed it and slipped it in next to his samurai sword. His face is hand painted, and his hair is carefully combed in a warrior style. Very minor age and wear, no missing pieces or insect damage, a wonderful display piece. He stands just about 14 inches in height.
