US Indian Wars Era Enlisted Cavalry Helmet

Sold
$625.00

Description

Original era manufacture. An honest 1881 pattern helmet with all original components. The sweatband is dry and not pliable enough to pull down to check  for ink stamps. The body is not crushed or broken, the edge binding is intact with scattered cracks, and minor scuffing, no areas of missing leather. The thin leather band around the base of the helmet is sound, no chinstrap. Original wool cords and horsehair plume, with original metal fittings, with a Cavalry plate. There are no extra holes in the body behind the plate, or the other metal fittings. Overall the helmet has a pleasing, tone finish, showing the individual components have been together for a long time. ....'so instead of spa we'll drink down ale, and pay the reckoning on the nail, no man for debt shall go to jail, for Garry Owen and Glory'.
