Sold
$1250.00

Description

Original era manufacture. Gold filled medal, being a facsimile of the Army of the Potomac badge, named on the reverse, 'Presented to A. Hoffmann, by Mich. Post 393 GAR 1890. It measures 80 mm in length, and is mounted to an old US flag silk ribbon. The left side, connecting point of the cross has become disconnected from the bottom edge of the cannon. Also included is a musical or singing society presentation badge, also named to A. Hoffman. A jeweler friend tested the suspension bar and center medallion and it came back as 18k gold. The badge measures 60 mm in length. The decorative wreath is of gilded silver. Michigan GAR Post 393 was located in Detroit, so perhaps a record of the membership roster exists to help fill-out the service of A. Hoffmann.
