Original era manufacture. New York retailer James S. Smith received a a patent in June 1861 for false embroidered, removable shoulder straps of stamped brass. Our pair displays a light blue wool interior panel for Infantry, in the rank of Captain. Minor mothing to the dark blue wool backing material, 7 of the 8 original attaching wires remain intact.
