Description

Original era manufacture A very clean example of this classic brass handled bayonet for the 1866 Chassepot rifle. Unmarked spine, mismatched numbers, Christofle manufacture. The blade is bright, it has not been sharpened, showing only a few areas of staining and cleaned corrosion. Clean, blue finish to the near dent-free scabbard, mellow brass patina finish to the grip. These Christofle marked blades, were part of a contract given to them during the Siege of Paris, 1870-71, however the delivery was made after the end of hostilities. X mark on the guard.
