Sold
$395.00

Description

Original era manufacture. Combat service quality sword by the famous firm of Wilkinson. The polished steel blade measures 32 inches in length, running straight and true. Faint etched design on each side of the blade, with a serial number 48507 on the spine, indicating manufacture between 1914-1917. No corrosion issues on nicks in the cutting edge. The blade surface has been lovingly polished for many years resulting in the etching being faint at this point in time. White  buff leather bumper on the base.Massive polished steel basket guard with a George V cypher, black fishskin wrapped grip bound with triple strand twisted wire. Passing through the guard is an original unbroken brown leather sword knot.Wartime emergency field scabbard of wood, covered in brown pigskin. The scabbard displays considerable wear and age, with surface loss near the tip, and portions of the wood body missing as well. While fragile, the scabbard remains stout enough to hold the blade properly.
