Description
Unissued β MINT β late war M1 steel helmet in excellent condition. Complete with original camouflage net. Liner is in very good condition and is maker marked by with the firm logo of MSA. This 'high pressure' manufactured M-1 helmet liner is identified by an embossed 'MSA' in the crown. Mine Safety Appliance started M-1 helmet liner delivery to the US Army in September 1942. They produced approximately between 2,000,000 β 4,000,000 M-1 helmet liners and discontinued production around August 17, 1945 when the war ended. The liner is complete with its chin strap and is dated 1945, hence it is a perfect match for this late war 'rear' seam helmet. In 1944, the stainless steel helmet rim with a seam at the front was replaced by a manganese steel rim with a rear seam, as well as the helmet bails being changed from a fixed, welded version to a swivel model in 1942, along with slight alterations to the shaping of the side brim. A beautiful end-of-the-war American steel helmet in perfect condition!
