Original era manufacture. US M1878 Canteen with a tan canvas cover with US stencil. The canteen is complete with its original cork stopper secured to a triangular loop found on each side of the body.Co E 3rd KY and the soldier's name is written on the reverse of the canteen cover.The body is very clean, with a clear US stencil, there are a few shallow dents but nothing detracting, no fraying or holes in the cover, just typical staining and soiling from age and use.Attached to the canteen is an original period and correct canteen sling, which is quite pliable for its age, no visible markings. There is a repair in the leather strap, artfully done, should make this fine for display.
