US Civil War Smooth Sided Canteen, Brown Wool Cover, Tarred Linen Strap

Original era manufacture. US Civil War Canteen. Smooth sided with a brown wool cover and tarred linen strap. Complete with stopper. From the John Henry Kurtz collection.The wool cover is free from moth damage, just soiling from use and age, the body is not dented. Tall cork stopper which is secured by a brass link chain attached to one of the upper strap guides. The folded linen strap has a tarred finish, has stiffened some from age and is broken away on one side. With the canteen comes the original auction description and lot tag from this famous collection.
