Description

Original era manufacture. Pattern 1881 helmet body, with a US QMD stamping on the underside of the leather sweatband. The felt body is not crushed or broken, the edge binding is very nice, no large cracks or missing sections. The sweatband is pliable and size marked 7 1/8.The thin leather band around the bottom of the helmet is missing, with a non-regulation adjustable leather chinstrap attached. Stamped Artillery plate with Artillery side buttons. No extra holes in the body behind the plate, which is secured by two brass loops, the left wingtip loop is missing. Assembled from original parts, at one time available from the venerable firms of Francis Bannerman and W. Stokes Kirk.
