US Post Civil War, Ames Navy Bayonet & Scabbard, 1870

Original period manufacture. A brass handled sword bayonet, with a 20 inch polished steel blade. Clear markings on both sides of the ricasso, with a very dark brass patina to the grip and guard. Evidence of an old sharpening along the length of the blade, with scattered spotting and staining from age, with light pitting from old corrosion in spots. Original black leather bodied scabbard with brass throat and chape. The stitching is sound, the leather unbroken, with evidence of an old crease near the tip, and scattered drops of garage paint to keep it honest.
