Description
Original period manufacture. Last year we purchased a fairly extensive collection of JapaneseMeiji Era, Russo-Japanese War artifacts. Some of theitems we processed quickly, others, like this uniformgrouping were set aside and largely forgotten about. We've been doing some much needed house-cleaning in our little 500 square foot warehouse/work area and found this set sitting under a pile of boxes. What we have here is an example of a then, newly issued, khaki cotton Japanese Army issue enlisted field uniform, displaying rather dramatic evidence of its original owners wounding during battle. Numerous stains can be seen on the surface of the tunic, and the right leg of the breeches exhibits the same staining with a cut by surgical shears up to the thigh. A period cabinet card shows a group of Japanese female nurses, gathered around their charges at a Japanese hospital in Tokyo. The man reclining isreportedly the individual to whom this uniform once belonged. The uniform came to us in this wooden box which has a rather extensive set of kanji written on the inside of the lid. In addition, we have a copy of an email correspondence with the man from whom we purchased the uniform providing other details regarding its history. Both the tunic and breeches have Army issue stamps on their interiors. This set really belongs in a museum.
