US Indian Wars Era, 4th Maryland NG Shako

Original era manufacture. Black wool, pressed felt body with a patent leather top, lower band and bound visor. Infantry side buttons with hooks on each side for  a chain chinstrap.On the front is a brass plate with an enameled center, Latin inscription'Judicemur Agendo: MD NG.A green and white lambswool pompom is inserted into the top front of the shako. Brown leather sweatband with portions of an original label remaining in the top.The visor is slightly pulled away from the body on the right edge.
