Japanese Late Edo Period, Jingasa Samurai Helmet

Original era manufacture. A very clean example, with adiameter measuring 17 inches. The top of the helmet has a very nicely textured surface, with a chrysanthemum shaped centralbrass boss, and a small metal loop for decoration. At the front of the helmet is a family Mon, done in gold leaf. The underside of the helmet exhibits a red lacquer finish, a traditional Japanese process, worked for thousands of years. The cloth head pad, and padded chinstrap are missing, overall the helmet displays light wear, with one very small nick in the front edge of the helmet, and some shallow finish cracking on the underside of the helmet. The Edo period existed from approximately 1603-1868, with our example dating from the later years ofthat time.
