No.: N2041/44 secretAugust 10, 1944To:The General Commissioner of the Landwacht NetherlandsMr. C. van GeelkerkenUtrechtSubject:Landwacht Netherlands – WA / Traffic Control UnitsDear Mr. van Geelkerken,Attached I am sending you a transcript of a telegram to the Commander of the Ordnungspolizei. SS-Oberführer Rauter has promised me to do everything possible within the framework of the motor-WA to ensure that the main groups are established as quickly as possible. In each province, and in addition in the major cities (see telegram), groups of 7 men each are to be primarily deployed. These groups should be available on bicycles or, if available, by car (generator-powered vehicles), in order to monitor the condition of main and side roads throughout the country.I would like to point out that in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, so-called SAS groups of the Allies are active—small units of 5 to 6 men, armed with submachine guns and dressed in German uniforms—used to ambush German vehicles, including those with armed escorts. These SAS groups establish contact with terrorist organizations, so-called gangs, and resistance movements. The 28 control groups I have requested are tasked with traffic surveillance and, if they detect enemy movements, to track them immediately so that police and military forces can act swiftly to eliminate them.I ask you, dear Mr. van Geelkerken, to devote special attention to the formation of these 28 control groups and to instruct Mr. R. to accelerate their establishment. With best regards,Heil Hitler!Yours faithfully,[signature] RauterSS-Obergruppenführer and Chief of PoliceA very interesting letter with Rauter autograph for the Dutch collaboration collection!Article number: 14351
