French, 2nd Replublic Ca.1848 Garde Nationale Officers Shako

Original era manufacture. Leather top and visor, with a blue wool covered cardboard body. At the front, is an impressive looking stamped copper rooster with crossed flags and fasces below. Painted tricolor behind the bird's head and a red wool 'poodle cut' pompom above. The shako is decorated with a top band in silver brocade, black patent leather band and the base of the shako. Linked brass decorative chinstrap, which is secured with two flaming bomb buttons.The shako is very sound, with an intact red moroccan leather sweatband and a blue cotton liner. Normal age and wear overall.
