Description

Original era manufacture. US pre WWI enlisted Marine khaki uniform set, named in both the coat and breeches to E.C. Hennon (Everett C. Hennon), Ancestry shows him serving in the US Marine Corps from 1908-1911. In addition to Hennon's name an additional name is stenciled in the coat lining, W.J.Snyder (William J. Snyder) who served in the Marines from 1904-1908. Interesting to see the crossover for the Marine's service time. In July 1908, then Private E.C.Hennon was assigned a berth aboard the battleship USS Missouri (BB-11), a berth he held until January 1911. While aboard the Missouri Private Hennon would have served during the epic world cruise of the Great White Fleet, when it sailed from San Francisco to Honolulu and ports beyond. The Coat: khaki cotton, five-button front, with it's full complement of darkened bronze buttons, two upper pockets, pointed cuffs. Standing collar with no evidence of any emblems ever being placed there. Inside his name is stenciled in black ink in three different places, the name W.J.Snyder appears only one time. Interestingly the coat securing buttons are neatly backed with small squares of leather. Size about a 38 regluar. The Breeches: khaki cotton of a lighter weight cloth, with white cotton pocket linings. Fly front, belt loops with a single hip pocket on the right side. There is a small half belt in the back, with it's securing button being a replacement using a small size USN trouser button. There is an L-shaped repaired tear in the seat, with scattered staining from service use. Waist measures 32 inches with his name stenciled in two places, and inseam 26 inches. The calf buttons have been removed. We are including two sheets of printed records courtesy of Ancestry which list the dates and musters of Private Hennon with the United States Marine Corps. In addition, further research will show that during WWI he also served in the US Army and went to France in 1918.
