Description
Sword and metal sheath. A clean example of a patternof sword adopted in Meiji 32 (1899),in two styles, Ko, with a 32 3/4 inch blade, and Otsu, with a30 1/2 inch blade. Our example is the Ko pattern, as issued to the Japanese Cavalry.The polished steel blade is very clean with no issues, and is serial numbered on the ricasso, 79634. There are Tokyo arsenal markings in the steel guard, no provision for the leather finger loop found on early production swords. Heavy steel backstrap which displays a deep checked design, matching the original finish wooden grip.Black painted finish to the scabbard body, guard, and backstrap, most of which remains. Matching serial number 28840 blade to scabbard.
