Falze make photos easier to remove from an album: just moisten one side, fold it, and tear the Falz at the bending point. They are also water-soluble, so if you mist it, you can remove it from the photo. Using Cellophane as a glue agent doesn't harm silver gelatin prints that are easily damaged by the solvents in all liquid glues. Since these are original, I don't know how well they still work.
