French M1866 Chassepot Bayonet & Scabbard, Tulle 1875

Original era manufacture. Classic sword bayonet with a yataghan shaped blade, introduced for use with the breechloading Chassepot rifle in 1866.Brass grip with a steel guard and a very clean 23 inch polished steel blade. Arsenal marked on the spine Tulle 1875, making this a late production bayonet.Relatively dent-free scabbard with a steel patina finish. A common enough bayonet, but certainly a classic, the last of the French sword bayonets, one of my favorite bayonets.
