French WWI Trench Art Letter Opener, Verdun 1918

Original period manufacture. Made from the copper driving band of a large caliber artillery shell, and cleverly formed into a cleaver shape. Nice floral decoration on the blade, with an oval panel inscribed Verdun 1918.Measures just under 8.5 inches, nice copper patina finish.
