With makers marks V-21-N on reverseReverse of insignia complete with 3 x pin-posts and their attached butterfly clutch discsThe Special Warfare insignia, also known as the 'SEAL Trident', recognizes those members of the United States Navy who have completed the Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training, completed SEAL Qualification Training (SQT) and have been designated as U.S. Navy SEALsEstablished on 16 October 1970, during the Vietnam War, the Special Warfare insignia was initially issued in two grades: gold for officers and silver for enlisted. In 1978, the silver SEAL insignia was abolished, with the Special Warfare insignia being issued solely in gold thereafter. The SEAL insignia is therefore unusual in the Navy, in that it is one of the very few breast insignia issued identically for both officers and enlisted personnel. This is partly due to the combined training both officers and enlisted men receive, side by side, when involved in BUD/S trainingIn uniform the insignia is worn on the left breast of the tunic, above any medal ribandsAs worn by all qualified United Sates 'Navy Seals' Special Forces personnelCondition: EF
